Celebrating Music at HTeX!
Dear HTeX Community,
We are thrilled to share some joyful news about our exciting music partnerships this year, made possible through Proposition 28, Arts and Music in Schools California funding!
Over the past eight weeks, our students dove into a rich and creative music experience with our wonderful community partners:
🎵 Kindergarten & TK – Songbirds Program
Our youngest learners spread their wings with Songbirds, a joyful introduction to music and movement through weekly lessons designed to build a lifelong love of music.
🎶 1st & 2nd Grades – APT 4 Music
Students engaged in hands-on learning with instruments like drums, keyboards, and ukuleles as they explored the fundamentals of songwriting and music composition. They created their own original songs—what a fantastic way to build confidence and creativity!
🎤 4th & 5th Grades – Infoformance with Cygnet Theatre
In collaboration with Cygnet Theatre, students participated in an Infoformance—a dynamic mix of performance and learning how to prepare their singing voices and theatre skills together. They created magic on stage!
🥁 3rd Grade – APT 4 Music (after Spring Break)
Third graders will begin their APT 4 Music journey right after we return from spring break, diving into rhythm, melody, and songwriting with energy and enthusiasm.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to bring high-quality music education to our students and to partner with such inspiring local arts organizations within the Liberty School Community. These experiences not only enhance creativity, but also build confidence, collaboration skills, and a deep appreciation for the arts.
Stay tuned for performance details and ways to celebrate our third grade students’ musical achievements this spring!
With joy and gratitude,
Dr. Melissa

Back in Action: Sleep, Sweaters, and Spring Excitement!
Dear Community Members,
Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful and fun-filled Spring Break. As we ease back into school routines, we want to highlight just how important quality sleep is for our students’ success. After time off, it’s common for schedules (ours included!) to shift a bit—but now’s a great time to re-establish consistent bedtimes and restful nights. A well-rested brain is ready to learn, solve problems, and engage with peers! Article with tips for developing routines
Dress for the Weather (and Label Everything!)
As spring rolls in, our students are layering up in the mornings and shedding sweaters and jackets by lunchtime. Our Lost and Found is overflowing—and not just with odds and ends, but with some pretty expensive gear! Please make sure your child’s name is written clearly on all clothing items. This helps us get items back to their rightful owners quickly.
March into Minecraft – You Did It! We had 91% Attendance for the Month
A huge thank you for your support during our March into Minecraft attendance drive! We loved seeing so many students excited to complete their towers and show off their creativity. Because of your support, attendance was strong and energy was high. We’ll be announcing soon when Dr. Melissa and I will take the plunge in the dunk tank and perform our much-anticipated synchronized dance—stay tuned!
Spring Forward with Us!
This is our final big push of the year, and we’re already looking ahead to our Spring Exhibition. Our students are hard at work on exciting projects, and we can’t wait to celebrate their learning with you. Thank you for being such amazing partners in our school community. Your care, involvement, and support make all the difference.
With appreciation,
Mr. Brian
If your child is experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral difficulties that are impacting them at school, wellness check-ins are available to all students as a support. Wellness check-ins can take place as needed throughout the year.
This year we will also work to offer monthly lunch bunches for students struggling to connect with their peers during unstructured times. This support will also be available to all students throughout the year.
If you have any questions about any of these supports please email Ericah Edwards at eedwards@hightechhigh.org.
Let’s continue to work together this school year to create a community that connects all students to the supports that they need and deserve!
Rady Children's and SDCOE have collaborated to create a webinar series for parents and caregivers that addresses mental health challenges faced by youth. These are a great opportunity for families to connect to resources and have some of their questions answered by clinicians. Some of the topics include bullying, self-harm, and stress/resilience.

We have so many wonderful experiences and events to look forward to. Be on the lookout on Konstella for upcoming PA meetings, planning meetings, and sign-ups to volunteer.

While we love to see your children’s smiling faces in school, and regular daily attendance is important to all we do, we do want to remind you to keep students home if they are ill, particularly if they have a fever.
COVID-19 Reminder For Students
If they are symptomatic, they should be encouraged to test and/or share with parents they should test.
If they test positive, they should also stay home if they are symptomatic.
They can return to school when they are also fever-free for 24-hours without the use of fever-reducing medications and other non-fever symptoms are improving.
If they test positive but are asymptomatic (no fever, and no other symptoms) they can remain at school unless symptoms develop.
They should be encouraged to wear a mask through Day 10 (masks should be available at the front desk).
Tests
Everyone can, once again, order four free boxes of COVID-19 tests via USPS. This can be done through this link.
Please continue to communicate with the school if your child will be absent due to illness by contacting Maggie at mfragoso@hightechhigh.org. Please notify Ms. Maggie the day of student absence.
We are looking forward to an exciting school year of learning and want to help keep our community healthy!
The HTeX Community Meeting is a cherished time for our entire school community to unite, creating a space for collective learning, sharing valuable information, and celebrating the diversity and achievements within our community. It serves as a focal point where students, parents, and educators come together to strengthen the bonds that make our community special.
Our Community Meetings are co-led by our Student Ambassadors and mentor staff, Ms. Nikki, Ms. Clara, and Ms. Destiny! We hold our Community Meetings once a month on the black top.
If you are interested in presenting to our students for our school wide Community Meeting, please complete this form. This is an OUTDOOR event. Presentations will be up to 20 minutes.
We will reach out to you to follow up.

Talent Show - Calling all Performers!
It’s almost time for our Talent Show! The guidelines for HTeX performers is as follows: Students must attend all auditions and rehearsals to participate. Students must stick with the talent they performed during auditions. Students are encouraged to perform with friends/groups. Performances should be no longer than a minute and a half. Please make sure students bring all performance materials needed to every rehearsal. Sign up by Monday, April 21st to participate. Please help your student understand these guidelines, as they will unfortunately not be able to perform in the talent show if they are not followed!
Talent Show auditions and rehearsals are as follows:
Auditions Thursday, April 24th 3-4pm (classrooms)
Rehearsals Thursday, May 8th 3-4pm (classrooms) and Thursday, May 22nd 3-4pm (classrooms)
Dress Rehearsal Monday, June 2nd 3:30-5:30pm (The Forum)
Talent Show Tuesday, June 3rd 11:30-2:30 (The Forum)

If your student goes to aftercare, we will send them there after their performance. If your student gets picked up with regular dismissal, please come to school at the regular dismissal time and wait for their performance to be complete.

Dear HTex Families and Community,
Our School would love your support in collecting Box Tops.
Box Tops help our School by raising money ! These funds help our school with resources. In turn it will help our children grow in their educational experiences. All you have to do is cut them out send them with your child to school. Each classroom will have a yellow envelope where Box Tops could be deposited. The contest will be between classrooms. Our school also gives rewards to students and classrooms to make Box Top collecting a friendly competition.
Thank you for your valued support.

Dear Families,
We hope everyone is having a wonderful Spring Break! We had such an incredible time during camp and are so grateful to everyone who helped make it special.
Throughout the week, campers got creative with fun and colorful art projects, cheered on the Padres at an exciting game (Go Padres—they won!), and picked up new skills on the tennis court thanks to our amazing instructor, Tony. Whether they were brand new to the sport or already had some experience, everyone had a blast learning and playing together.
We ended the week on a high note with a popsicle and pizza party—two of our favorite things! But what truly made this camp unforgettable was the connection between students and staff from both HTeX and HTe. It was so heartwarming to watch new friendships form, teams collaborate, and everyone come together with joy and teamwork to make the week so successful.
We can’t wait for more fun to come!
