May 13 @ 6pm HTeX PA 26-27 Council Vote via Zoom | CAASPP Grades 3-5 April 20- May 22 (Family Guide https://ca.startingsmarter.org/)
Dear HTeX Community,
We hope your spring break was filled with incredible love and joy! We have missed the students and can hardly contain our excitement in welcoming everyone back on Tuesday, April 14th at 8:15am.
We wanted to share some beautiful events that happened right before and during spring break. Please see below the images of joy from our TK Exhibition, Annual Students vs. Staff Basketball Game, and HTeX participation in the Deeper Learning Conference. This year there were combined over a thousand educators attending the Deeper Learning and National Summit on Improvement in Education Conference, who connected, inspired, built, imagined, reflected, and learned how to make schools more student centered, more meaningful, and more equitable. So honored to have Jackson, Auden, DJ Mai, Adelyn, Ms. Ruth, & Devon (HTeX Alum) represent HTeX at the DL conference by sharing work they are proud of to an authentic audience! Student and adult learning in synergy!
Join me in sharing Explorer shine to our TK Team! A phenomenal exhibition integrating storytelling, engineering, visual and performing arts, multi media, and games. So proud of our TK Explorers! Give a clap clap whoosh to Ms. Sage, Ms. Angie, Ms. Fernanda, Ms. Christina, Ms. Taylor, and Ms. Tyra for a beautiful collaboration.
Here is a clap clap whoosh to our All Star 5th Grade and Staff Players! Explorer shine to Ms. Tavin, Ms. Nikki, Ms. Tatyana, and Coach Lane for planning such a joy-filled HTeX tradition. It was a close one this year. 5th grade has got some ballers!
With love,
Dr. Melissa

Back in Action: Sleep, Sweaters, and Spring Excitement!
Dear Community Members,
Welcome back! We hope you all had a restful and fun-filled Spring Break. As we ease back into school routines, we want to highlight just how important quality sleep is for our students’ success. After time off, it’s common for schedules (ours included!) to shift a bit—but now’s a great time to re-establish consistent bedtimes and restful nights. A well-rested brain is ready to learn, solve problems, and engage with peers! Article with tips for developing routines.
Strong Return from Break!
As we return from break, daily attendance and on-time arrival are especially important. The first days back help students reconnect with their teachers, classmates, and classroom routines. Thank you for helping your child arrive ready to start the day strong.
Attendance Celebration!
I want to thank all of our families and students. During the first two weeks of our Mystery Hero Attendance Drive, we held steady at 95% attendance, aiming to reach 96%.
When we return, we will continue the drive for the next two weeks. With your continued support, we can reach our school-wide goal. We only need to move the needle by 1%, and we are so close!
Morning Routine: As a reminder- Adults will drop their student off on the playground during arrival and allow thier students to enter the school with their classmates. This was new before break, and it felt great having our students in the building at 8:15 and already getting ready to learn. All adults in the building must check-in with Ms. Maggie and receive a visitors badge when in the building.
Dress for the Weather and Label Everything!
As spring rolls in, our students are layering up in the mornings and shedding sweaters and jackets by lunchtime. Our Lost and Found is overflowing—and not just with odds and ends, but with some pretty expensive gear! Please make sure your child’s name is written clearly on all clothing items. This helps us get items back to their rightful owners quickly.
Spring Forward with Us!
This is our final big push of the year, and we’re already looking ahead to our Spring Exhibition. Our students are hard at work on exciting projects, and we can’t wait to celebrate their learning with you. Thank you for being such amazing partners in our school community. Your care, involvement, and support make all the difference.
With appreciation,
Mr. Brian
Please join me in welcoming Victor! Victor is HTeX's new Facilities Super Hero.
Hello HTeX! My name is Naomi Cho and I am the new food and nutrition supervisor. I will oversee the Point Loma and North County Campus and am so excited to get acquainted with all our wonderful students.I previously worked as an Academic Coach at High Tech Elementary PL and worked as a Camp Coordinator with the YMCA for many years. I then moved over to the restaurant industry where I was a general manager for 8 years. With my background in both education and food, I am excited to join High Tech as the new food & nutrition supervisor! If you see me down the halls or have any feedback, please feel free to wave me down (:
Hi my name is Chloe and I am from Chico, Ca. I am currently a student at San Diego State working towards a degree in education. My goal is to one day teach at the elementary level. I love exploring San Diego and finding new spots to go to, spending time outdoors, and being with my friends and family. I think working with young students is a super rewarding job as you get to be such a big part in their development and really help shape students to be successful. Excited to be working with Aftercare and spending time with the amazing kids!
Hi HTeX Families,
At High Tech Elementary Explorer, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our highest priority.
Recently, we learned that an adult took a photo inside our school during the school day and posted it on social media. The image included students and staff engaged in learning. Situations like this are deeply concerning because they involve members of our community during instructional time and were shared publicly without the school’s knowledge or consent.
As a community that values trust and direct communication, it is disappointing when concerns or questions are not brought directly to the school first. Actions such as photographing and posting images of students and staff during the school day can pose safety risks to our campus. As adults in a school community, there is an expectation that decisions be made with careful consideration of how they may impact not only one student but also the privacy, safety, and well-being of the entire community.
Our teachers and staff work incredibly hard to create safe, thoughtful, and engaging learning environments for students. They deserve to focus on their work without the concern that classroom moments may be photographed and shared publicly without context or permission.
To ensure the safety of our students and staff, and to protect the integrity of the learning environment, the following procedures are in effect immediately:
Visitor Access During the School Day
• During instructional hours, the campus is closed to visiting adults.
• Instructional hours are 8:15–12:45 on Wednesdays and 8:15–2:45 on all other days.
• During morning arrival, students are to be dropped off on the playground or at the front desk.
• Adults are not permitted to move through the building during instructional hours unless they have a scheduled meeting arranged through the office and sign in using the Visitu system. Please make sure you have a state-issued ID to scan into the Vistu system.
These procedures ensure that teachers can focus on the lessons they have carefully designed and that instructional time remains uninterrupted for students while maintaining the safety of our community.
Communication with Teachers
Another reason to keep our school building student-based during instructional hours is that our teachers carefully plan their days to support student learning. Unexpected interruptions during the school day take valuable instructional time away from many students. Email communication allows teachers to respond thoughtfully and at an appropriate time. Please note teachers will respond to emails within 48 hours.
We care deeply about this community and will continue to take the steps necessary to protect the safety, privacy, and learning environment of our students and staff.
Questions or concerns should be directed to Dr. Melissa Han or Mr. Brian Burr.
In partnership,
Dr. Melissa and Mr. Brian
Dear HTeX Volunteers,
We are so grateful for the time and energy you pour into our school community! To ensure a safe and focused environment for all our students, please follow these updated volunteer protocols. All volunteers will will need to review the orientation information and sign the HTeX Volunteer Acknowledgement form.
Please coordinate with the staff member when the best time to volunteer is. When you arrive, please check in using the Visitu system at the front office. You are required to wear your printed volunteer badge visibly at all times while on campus. Don’t forget to sign out via Visitu before you leave!
To minimize distractions and keep our students focused, we ask that you remain in the specific area designated for your volunteer event. Please avoid visiting other classrooms or wandering the hallways during instructional time.
Our teachers prioritize student interaction during the school day. If you need to discuss a specific matter:
Please send an email rather than approaching them during class or drop-off.
Teachers will respond by 48 hours.
Thank you for your support in keeping our school safe and our students on track. We couldn't do it without you!
Hi Explorer families!
It’s almost time for our Talent Show!
This year, all performers must turn in a signed guidelines form to be able to participate in the HTeX Talent Show. If your student wants to participate, please fill out and sign the form, and return it to your classroom teacher no later than Wednesday, April 22nd.
The guidelines for HTeX performers is as follows: Performers must attend all auditions and rehearsals to participate. Performers must stay with the group and/or talent they performed during auditions. Performances should be no longer than a minute and a half. Performers need to bring all performance materials needed to every rehearsal. Performers may only perform in one act. Please help your student understand these guidelines, as they will unfortunately not be able to perform in the talent show if they are not followed!
AUDITIONS: Thursday, Apr 23rd 3-4pm (HTeX)
PRACTICES: Thursday, May 7th 3-4pm (HTeX)
and Thursday, May 28th 3-4pm (HTeX)
DRESS REHEARSAL: Thursday, June 4th 2026 3-6pm (HTe Gym)
SHOW: Friday, June 5th 2026 9-11:30 (HTe Gym)
Your performer only needs to stay at the auditions and rehearsals until their performance is done, so they might be ready earlier than the suggested end time. If your student goes to aftercare, we will send them there after their performance. If your student gets picked up with regular dismissal, please come to school at the regular dismissal time and wait for their performance to be complete.
Please reach out to Madison Murillo- Kindergarten teacher, mmurillo@hightechhigh.org with any questions!
Thank you!

Quiet Recess Volunteers
Calling All High Tech Families!!
I hope this message finds you well. As we strive to create a fun and engaging school environment for our students, we are excited to extend an invitation for our students adults to volunteer during recess.
Recess is a crucial time for our students to unwind, socialize, and engage in playful activities. Your presence during this time can make a significant difference in enhancing their overall school experience. Some of our student population has messaged to us that being outside for recess can be overstimulating. We would like to offer our parent volunteers a chance to come in and support those students. Our goal is to keep all students engaged in an activity that meets their individual needs.
If you're interested in volunteering, please sign up for a specific date and time using this form. We appreciate any time you can contribute.. Our kids love consistency, and we would appreciate a recurring schedule. However, if you have a limited schedule and want to help, we can discuss those opportunities on a case-by-case basis.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to be involved in your child's school life. Your support is instrumental in creating a positive and enjoyable school environment.
Thanks kindly,
Mr. Brian
